At Glasshoughton Bowling Club, we believe that the sport of bowling should be accessible and enjoyable for everyone in our community. Our mission is to unite people through the game of bowling, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels can come together to appreciate the sport. We strive to provide a safe, social, supportive, and friendly atmosphere where everyone feels welcomed and valued. Our ethos is built on the belief that sport should be more than just competition – it should also be about making connections and fostering lasting relationships, promoting a sense of belonging, and creating a space where people can come together and have fun.

Accessibility is of utmost importance to us. We are committed to ensuring our facilities are user-friendly and accommodating for everyone, including those with disabilities. In our pursuit of inclusivity, we have implemented several improvements over the last couple of years to enhance the experience for all members and guests. One of our key enhancements is the replacement of the old, uneven flagstones with wide, smooth concrete paths surrounding the green. This upgrade allows wheelchair users unrestricted viewing access to all sides of the playing area.

Furthermore, our clubhouse has been thoughtfully designed and recently extended to accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities. The building is fully equipped with accessible entrances, facilities, and amenities, making it a comfortable and welcoming environment for everyone. Additionally, the clubhouse extension now provides unobstructed views of the green, allowing members and guests to appreciate the action on the field while socialising in a cosy setting.

We are passionate about promoting the benefits of bowling as a healthy and active pastime, and we work hard to provide opportunities for people to learn and improve their skills. At the same time, we recognise that bowling is more than just a physical activity – it’s a social activity that can help combat loneliness and bring people together.

Our club participates in an indoor league at Lock Lane Sports Centre in Castleford for those looking to continue playing throughout the winter months. We were proud to have won a cup competition in our inaugural year of participating in the 2021/22 season.
